Council is currently seeking registrations of interest from suitable candidates for the future management of the Bilambil Sports Club, located at the corner of Bilambil and Hogan Roads, Bilambil.

Alongside this process, Council invites feedback from the community about preferred options for the future use and management of the building.

Any future arrangement will continue to provide appropriate access to the building to allow the licensed sporting clubs to conduct their sports.

Tweed Shire Council is again welcoming community feedback on the reviewed Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM) Strategy, which is on exhibition until Friday 21 March 2014.

The IWCM strategy was adopted in 2006 and has been used to guide resourcing and prioritise management actions for water supply, sewerage and stormwater systems.  In line with best-practice, independent consultants are now reviewing the IWCM strategy so it remains relevant to current and emerging issues and community desires for future water cycle management. 

Community engagement has been central to the review of the IWCM Strategy so far, with input gathered through a series of public exhibitions, surveys, interviews, workshops and ongoing liaison with state government agencies.  To build on this, written submissions are again being invited until close of business on Friday 21 March 2014.

Tweed Shire Council and Destination Tweed are preparing an economic development strategy for the Tweed and have extended the date for public comment on the draft from Monday 3 February 2014 to Friday 28 February 2014. 

The economic development strategy will pursue the following objectives:

• maintain a diverse industry and business base;
• provide investment certainty;
• support existing businesses;
• increase job participation and inclusion;
• grow jobs in the Tweed Shire; and
• promote and develop business sustainability (financial, environmental, social)

The Your Say Tweed page for Council's Rural Villages Strategy is now live and community members are invited to share their experiences of village life.

The Rural Villages Strategy is all about recognising the distinct characteristics that make each village special, and identifying the opportunities and challenges that are likely to arise as Council and the community seek to protect and promote these inherent values.

If you live, work, learn or play in the villages, Council invites you to share your stories, photos and videos that capture the unique essence of each of the seven villages.

A public discussion began in November, with a series of community meetings to identify priorities for the future of key rural villages across the Tweed: Burringbar, Chillingham, Mooball, Stokers Siding, Tumbulgum, Tyalgum and Uki.

Further community meetings are scheduled for early 2014, when a discussion paper will be presented based on feedback collected via Your Say Tweed and the November community meetings.

In addition, expressions of interest will be called early in the new year for village residents keen to join a reference panel for the study.

Council is considering the future management of Bruce Chick Conservation Park and seeks feedback from the public.

Four options have been presented to Council following a detailed issues analysis and details of these, along with a full copy of the Council report, can be viewed on the Current Projects page of the Council website.

Public submissions on the future management of the park are invited until 5pm on Wednesday 18 December 2013 and should be made in writing to the Acting General Manager, Tweed Shire Council, PO Box 816, Murwillumbah NSW 2484 or by email to tsc@tweed.nsw.gov.au.

Council seeks public comment regarding the re-establishment of a number of Alcohol Free Zones across Tweed Heads, Tweed Heads South, Kingscliff, Salt, Cabarita Beach and Murwillumbah.

Council is conducting a community survey about wild dogs and dingoes in Tweed Shire.

The survey is designed to evaluate community awareness and attitudes about wild dogs and dingoes and will help to inform Council's vertebrate pest species management program.

Council is engaging with the community to develop a Rural Villages Plan, which will:

• look at settlement patterns that have emerged in Tweed Shire's rural areas
• identify distinct characteristics of each village
• provide a framework to meet the future needs of the resident, business and tourist communities.

See the Key Dates section for information about a series of community conversations in villages throughout Tweed Shire, to explain the background of the plan and how it will be development. The workshops will also provide the community an opportunity to discuss their experiences of rural village life and how they view the long term future of the Shire’s rural villages.

The plan will aim to achieve planning controls that help balance urban growth, the protection of agriculture, village character, heritage sites and the environment.

As part of the project, Council will liaise with communities to investigate land suitable for development that would make a meaningful contribution towards achieving growth targets in the Far North Coast Regional Strategy.
