Consultation has concluded
Currently, between five and 8.9 per cent of recycled water produced at Council's wastewater treatment plants is used. This is considerably lower than Council's longer term target of 15 per cent and lower than the state median of 9 per cent. Council recognises that without the provision of support to the proponents of recycled water schemes Council will not achieve its target of 15 per cent.
To address this issue, at its meeting of 16 October 2014, Council resolved to develop a policy for the provision of financial assistance to proponents of recycled water schemes. The draft Financial Assistance to Proponents of Recycled Water Schemes Policy is on exhibition until Wednesday 28 January 2015.
The draft policy includes Council's objective and targets for the use of recycled water and actions to assist Council to identify water recycling opportunities. It also states that the provision of financial assistance to proponents of recycled water schemes seeking assistance would be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The policy includes advice for proponents seeking Council support and guidance for Council to assess water recycling scheme proposals.
Written submissions on the draft Financial Assistance to the Proponents of Recycled Water Schemes Policy must be received by close of business on Wednesday 28 January 2015.
