Reducing single use materials
As part of its Towards Zero Waste strategy, Council is working towards eliminating and/or reducing wastes that are problematic for the community and the environment, such as the pollution of waterways and oceans by plastics and litter.
In July 2024, Council passed a motion to ban all types of balloons and single use plastic party decorations from all Council events, facilities and public land.
In August 2024, Council requested a single use policy be developed to ban single use items from Council operations, facilities and spaces. We’re currently in the feasibility and exploration phase of this project.
We'd like to know how prepared you are to minimise single use materials, increase use of reusable materials such as foodware, and what the challenges and opportunities may be for you and your organisation.
