The Group aims to enable active community involvement from Tweed residents in responding to climate change and driving local climate change solutions.
Thanks for getting involved with our Climate Action Cafes! More than 120 people shared their ideas for local community climate actions. We'll be connecting groups and supporting you as you make progress on your projects.
It is recognised that 10-15% of the Tweed LGA’s overall greenhouse gas emissions can be influenced by community and individual actions. While Council works towards its own climate change action plan, renewable energy action plan and adaptation plans, the community also has the opportunity to play a part in a sustainable, liveable future that protects the Tweed’s unique natural environment.
The Community Climate Action Group received 33 Expressions of Interest; thank you to everyone who took the time to submit an application. The group has had its first meeting and will begin by supporting the work of the Climate Action Cafes, before determining its areas of focus for action.
The Community Climate Action Group will agree on its own Terms of Reference, but it is also intended that the group will be invited to provide input to Tweed Shire Council's climate change work program and related activities, including:
to support the Climate Action Cafe events in February 2025 to identify projects and actions that can be driven at a community level
to document community projects and actions into a Community Climate Action Plan
to lead, engage and motivate the Tweed community’s active response to climate change
to lead and support delivery of community emissions reduction actions and projects
to provide input into Tweed Shire Council’s climate change work program.
What does a member of the Community Climate Action Group do?
The group will meet quarterly or as determined by the group, on an ongoing basis.
Read the draft Terms of Reference, to be updated and agreed on by the Community Climate Action Group.
