Tweed Recycling and Landfill Centre Master Plan

The Master Plan will transform the current Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre into a more user friendly and innovative site. It sets the stage to achieve less waste to landfill and is part of our Towards Zero Waste goal. It will maximise the use of materials already available and only place waste in landfill as a last resort.

Actions to improve the site for residents include:

• placing less in landfill
• moving around the site safely
• knowing what to drop off and where
• reducing, recycling and reusing as much as possible

Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre will remain open during all construction. We ask residents to take care and be aware – of workers, signs and speeds.

Master Plan actions and phases

Phase 1: Improve the layout and site design for all users.

Phase 2: Preparing for future landfill

Council is working towards our Towards Zero Waste goal, which means saving 90% of waste from landfill. Securing land space for the community’s future landfill waste is also a longer term goal.

Planning for our future waste is very important as:

• some products can’t be recycled or reused
• some problem waste still needs to go to landfill
• with current waste behaviours in the community, the landfill currently being built will be full in about 5 to 7 years with current waste behaviours.

We need to plan in advance, even when the aim is to place less waste into landfill, preparation is needed. Land space is limited, approvals are rigorous and time sensitive.
