Consultation has concluded

The youth recreation space at Cabarita Beach’s Les Burger Field will be upgraded and expanded during 2017.

Concept plans for the expansion have been produced and are on display for public comment until the end of March.

The plans include a multi-functional half basketball court area, informal concrete stepped seating and associated landscaping to complement the existing skate park and help ensure the site caters for a wider range of users, including families with young children.

    Council officers have been working with a range of Cabarita-based groups since August 2015 to develop the concept plans.

    They include Tweed Coast Raiders Junior Rugby League Sport Club, Cabarita Bogangar Residents Association, Cabarita Youth Service, and the Lions Club of Cabarita Beach and Pottsville Beach.

    Initial upgrade designs were provided to each group to share with their membership and their feedback was incorporated into the current concept designs.

    Feedback is now sought from the wider community to help finalise the plans.

    The Tweed Youth Strategy and Action Plan, adopted by Council in 2013, identified a number of community safety initiatives.

    The planned Les Burger Fields upgrade is in line with those safety initiatives, so Council resolved in April 2016 to redirect funds from Council’s Community Safety Plan to help pay for the youth space upgrade.
