Tyalgum Waste Transfer Station
Consultation has now concluded. More information about the future use of the site will be communicated as it becomes available.
Council has resolved to close the Tyalgum Waste Transfer Station at the end of the 2013/2014 financial year and establish a scenic lookout on the site. (See the Updates section for further detail.)
The proposal to close the site was informed by a number of factors, including:
- Low usage of the facility due to the expansion of Council's domestic bin collection service; and
- Poor economic return - the site is currently operating at a substantial cash deficit, costing over $70,000 a year to run, but generating an income of just $9000 per year, an average of $175 per weekend.
Council sought feedback from the Tyalgum community about its preferred options for the future use of the site including a proposal to establish a scenic lookout.
