Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on a planning proposal seeking to amend the Tweed Local Environment Plan 2014 with respect of land at 84, 86, 88 and 90-92 Chinderah Bay Drive, Chinderah used by Solo Resource Recovery, Tweed Shire Council’s waste contractors before 4 pm, Wednesday 10 July 2024.


What is being proposed?

Solo Resource Recovery, the current Council waste contractors, operating from 84, 86, 88 and 90-92 Chinderah Bay Drive, Chinderah, are seeking to enable a ‘depot’ land use as permitted with development consent. A substantial portion of the subject site is used for parking and storage of vehicles, however the relevant land use, ‘depot’, is currently prohibited under the MU1 Mixed Use zone.

The Planning Proposal seeks to amend the Tweed Local Environmental Plan 2014 (LEP 2014).

How will this planning proposal be implemented?

The site is currently zoned MU1 Mixed Use according to the 2014 Local Environmental Plan (LEP 2014).

The Planning Proposal seeks to enable the “depot” land use as permitted with consent on the subject land, through an amendment to Additional Permitted Uses Schedule and Additional Permitted Uses Map under the Tweed LEP 2014.

Next steps

Following the public exhibition, Council officers will prepare a final report with a detailed summary of submissions received. If the elected Council resolves to support the planning proposal, it will be forwarded to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for approval. Due to the upcoming local government election and associated caretaker period, this planning proposal is likely to be reported to Council either shortly after the public exhibition or in late 2024.
