What is your small town queer story?

Help us make history by sharing your story below!

Small Town Queer is an online exhibition and collection project by Tweed Regional Museum that explores the rich tapestry of Tweed's LGBTQIA+ history. The project aims to uncover local stories of sexual liberation, love, activism, discrimination, defiance, performance, spaces, places and local business. Visit our website to find our more.

Using the form below, the Museum hopes to capture your story, lived experience, views and life events so that future generations have a greater understanding of the history of the Tweed. The queer experience may also include the stories of partners, family members, and friends of LGBTQIA+ people, and allies who are also invited to contribute.

What can I write about?

A bit unsure what to write? Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • Tell us about yourself and your experience living in the Tweed
  • What was it like growing up here? or moving here from another place?
  • Have you experienced prejudice or discrimination in your life as a LGBTQIA+ person living here?
  • Do you have any advice for young queer people living in a regional area?
