Project update 22 August 2024

The Pottsville Open Space Draft Masterplan, which was on public exhibition from 8 August to 19 September 2023, received 127 survey submissions,13 individual or group submissions and 325 school aged post card submissions during the exhibition period, most of which in favour of the proposals. During initial community engagement from 27 July to 24 August 2022, 127 survey submissions and key stakeholder input informed the draft masterplan.

At the August Council meeting, Council decided to adopt the masterplan along with the community preferred biking facility location on Tweed Coast Rd on the condition that a wildlife-friendly fencing and a ‘No Access’ sign between the bike park and the creek buffer be installed to protect the sensitive environment. Also that Council integrate existing native vegetation into the bike skills park design as per environmental assessment recommendations and provides an education campaign on protecting bushland and riparian areas before the bike skills park opens. The bike skills habitat park and the other key open space adopted proposals are not funded at this time. When funding is available, the masterplan will be implemented in stages.
