We invite you to work with us to prepare for, mitigate and build resilience to future bushfires in the Tweed.

What we want to know

Help us understand how you would like to receive information about bushfire risks and safety in bushfire prone areas around the Tweed.

Despite the forecast of more rain, bushfires are a natural part of the Tweed landscape and will happen at some point in the future. When they happen they can have a devastating impact.

To ensure our community is prepared and resilient to this natural threat in the future, we want to let you know the latest bushfire mitigation and safety information, such as:

  • how to develop a bushfire survival plan
  • how to identify bushfire risks around your home
  • how to protect your property with an Asset Protection Zone (APZ)
  • how to build in a bushfire prone area or retrofit an existing property to be better equipped to withstand a bushfire.

We are running FREE Know Your Bushfire Risk - Community Workshops on Thursday 20 October as part of the Tweed Bushfire Resilience Project. If you and your household would like to attend, you can register here.

About the Tweed Bushfire Resilience Project

The Australian Government has allocated $1.275 million to Tweed Shire Council under the Bushfire Recovery - Exception Assistance Immediate Support Package.

As part of that grant, funding has been allocated to reducing the risk to people and property within bushfire prone areas by developing toolkits and information packages to assist landowners including rural land sharing communities.

This timely funding synchronises with the need to action a number of recommendations made as part of the Final Report of the NSW Bushfire Inquiry.
