Coffee Kiosk - We are working on getting a coffee kiosk back serving food and drinks at Jack Evans, just in time for summer!

Previously, we had 'Little Nova' coffee kiosk as a great pop-up feature to our newly upgraded space. We are now working on securing a kiosk to serve food and drinks for the space until November 2025.

Stage 3 Places to Swim construction is now completed.

The Places to Swim official opening will take place on the 2nd of August 2024.

Final concept plan available for review

The draft concept plan for the upgrade of the central swim area at Jack Evans Boat Harbour was placed on public exhibition from 24 September to 1 November 2023. The community was invited to complete a survey promoted via Your Say Tweed and in the local media.

The findings of the community survey and email submissions received during the public exhibition period are available in the Community Engagement Report.

Community feedback informed the development of the final concept plan.

Construction is scheduled to commence in March 2024, to be completed in June 2024.

Background

Council secured $748,000 funding through the NSW Government’s Places to Swim grant program to support the enhancement of public places to enjoy water-based recreation. The aim of the program is to create places to swim that are more accessible for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

The project will ensure Jack Evans Boat Harbour is more welcoming, safer, and continues to support the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors to Tweed’s Regional City.

Community had the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft concept plan. Submissions closed on Friday 1 November 2023.

The final Community Engagement Report is now available for review.

We are upgrading the beach entrance at Jack Evans Boat Harbour (adjacent to the inclusive playspace in Goorimahbah), which will include the following:

• improvements to the existing ramp for access and safety
• replacement of existing timber decking with composite decking and handrails for improved access into the water
• installation of a large shade structure
• accessible picnic facilities and seating including sun lounges
• improved landscaping
• shade umbrellas
• pathway connections
• bike racks

Stage 3 is proudly funded by the State Government under the Places to Swim grant program.

Stage 2 Construction of picnic facilities and a youth recreation area opened December 2024.

The project includes:

• small scale skate elements
• a basketball key
• s-shape seating
• additional pathways
• shade umbrellas
• informal seating
• a drinking fountain
• tree planting
• landscaping improvements.

Local Bundjalung artist Christine Slabb and artist Shmick Creations have worked together to create inspiring public art within the youth recreation area, which will contribute to the cultural vibrancy of Tweed Heads.

This section of the project (Stage 2) is proudly funded by the Australian Government who contributed $435,000, the NSW Government ($100,000) and Tweed Shire Council ($435,000).

Once the skate area is open, the community is encouraged to report graffiti or damage to Council on 02 66700 2400 or online via its ‘Report a Problem’ form. Council aims to remove graffiti on its property in high profile areas within 2 business days of notification.
