Tweed Shire Council is preparing a shire-wide Cultural Plan.

The Cultural Plan provides a framework to guide Council’s engagement with cultural activities across the shire over the next four years.

The Cultural Plan is the product of significant community consultation undertaken across Tweed Shire in 2016. Hundreds of people contributed to the plan through focus groups, planning discussions and by completing a community survey. The consultation has informed the definition of culture and the themes adopted for the plan.

    Community members are invited to provide feedback on Council’s draft Cultural Plan, which is on public exhibition until 14 August 2017.

    The Cultural Plan provides a framework to guide Council’s engagement with cultural activities across Tweed Shire over the next four years. It updates Council’s existing cultural policy, which was first developed in 1999.

    The Cultural Plan is the product of significant community consultation undertaken across Tweed Shire in 2016. Hundreds of people contributed to the plan through focus groups, planning discussions and by completing a community survey. The consultation has informed the definition of culture and the themes adopted for the plan.

    The Cultural Plan is structured around five themes which reflect the information and feedback received through community consultation:

    • Sense of Place
    • Enterprisingly Creative
    • Acknowledging Bundjalung Country
    • Every Day Live and Play
    • Making Things Discoverable
    These themes are linked to key elements of Council’s Community Strategic Plan through a series of significant projects and programs.

    Individuals and groups who work, or have a stake, in the arts and cultural sector across Tweed Shire are invited to participate in a focus group for a cultural plan.

    Expressions of interest are being called by Council for the group, which will be part of ongoing community engagement activities to inform preparation of a new cultural plan for the Tweed.

    The focus group will be held on Thursday 11 August at Jessie McMillan Hall, 16 Wollumbin Street, Murwillumbah, from 5.30 to 7.30 pm.

    Read the What's Your Cultural Picture? A Snapshot of Tweed Shire and complete the What's Your Cultural Picture online survey.

    The online survey can be completed at the Kingscliff, Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads libraries.

    Printed copies are also available at the libraries and at Council's Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah offices.

    You can also draw, paint, photograph or write about your cultural picture and upload load it to the online storyboard on this page.
