We've held four Community Conversation sessions and heard from approximately 280 people. Our Senior Urban Designer, Jonathan Lynch shared a 30 minute presentation about the Draft Kingscliff Locality Plan.

The draft plan and Development Control Plan will provide a 30-year vision and planning framework to ensure Kingscliff is a great place to live, work and play.The public exhibition period for the Draft Kingscliff Locality Plan closes on 24 September 2018.Earlier in the month we held two Community Conversations (roundtable discussions) and heard from over 160 people. The final roundtable discussions will be held on 18 September 2018 where we will hear from another 160 community members.Some of the topics being discussed include how we plan for future population growth, building heights, environmental protection, new sporting facilities and a new business and knowledge precinct to encourage employment growth.Feedback from the community will help to shape the next 30 years. There has been a strong public response to the upcoming roundtable discussions on the draft Kingscliff Locality Plan, with a change in venue to cater for the numbers able to attend.
The roundtable discussions will now be held at the Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club on Tuesday 4 September, with two sessions: one from 12pm to 2.30pm and the other from 5.30pm to 8pm.
Each session will cater for 100 people, allowing more people to participate than the previous venue, the Kingscliff Community Hall.
Those wishing to attend will need to book quickly through tweedshire.eventbrite.com.au or by calling Council's Contact Centre on (02) 6670 2400.
Council's Director Planning and Regulation, Vince Connell, said the Kingscliff Locality Plan (KLP) and the Development Control Plan (DCP) provided a 30-year vision and planning framework to guide the future growth and expansion of the Kingscliff locality.
The plan addresses important issues for Kingscliff's future such as building height, greenfield developments, town centre improvements and housing.
"It's great to see that so many people want to attend the roundtable discussions, as community input is vital to ensure that the locality plan reflects the visions and expectations of local residents and the community," Mr Connell said.
"Our planners have put many of their ideas into the Draft Kingscliff Locality Plan and Development Control Plan, but there is no-one better than the community to guide us to the best outcome."

The draft KLP and DCP will be on exhibition for public comment until 24 September 2018.

Kingscliff is home to 9,611 people living in 4,967 dwellings representing a 13% increase from 2011. Based on this population size Kingscliff is now defined as a town rather than as a village. Future development sites in and around Kingscliff have the potential to accommodate a further 4,000 residents housed in 2,000 new dwellings (houses and units) which would increase Kingscliff’s population to 14,000 people by 2036.
The key strategies proposed within the plans include:
Building height
Proposed lowering of building height across the locality including from 13.6 metres down to 11 metres along Marine Parade (Town Centre). The 13.6 metre height will be maintained across the balance of the town centre and business zones. It is proposed that building height in all medium density zones will be lowered from 13.6 metres to 12.2 metres.
Greenfield development
Providing master planning and design principles across all greenfield development sites to improve future subdivision outcomes. Environmental protection Protecting environmentally and ecologically important land through appropriate land use zoning. Employment and economic growth Supporting a new ‘business and knowledge precinct’ including a business park, industry and knowledge campus, additional light industrial areas and additional retail land uses.
Town centre improvements
Expand the town centre to the west along Turnock Street. Improve public domain by supporting footpath widening, additional pathway connections, potential town square and a multi-storey car park at the Kingscliff Shopping Village site. Relocate and expand the library and other community facilities into the town centre.
Housing
Improve housing affordability by facilitating a more diverse range of housing types to appeal to a broader demographic profile with a strong focus on subtropical subdivision and housing design. Open space Continue to build upon the network of open space areas including sports fields, parks, civic open space, bushland, coastal foreshore areas, cycle networks and walking paths.
