Pottsville unauthorised bike tracks and jumps

We have adopted a pragmatic approach to the informal bike tracks built at 141 Overall Drive, Pottsville. Signage was installed to remind users that vandalism, removal or harm to trees and threats to the public will not be condoned.

The site was monitored over several weeks. In that time, we continued to receive complaints from other park users including continued removal of trees and anti-social activities.

As a result, we intend to remove the unauthorised bike tracks and jumps.

Feedback has been extended and will now close on Sunday 14 November 2021.

The illegal bike jumps at 141 Overall Drive need to be removed.
As a long term resident of Pottsville, I have no issue with BMX bike jumps built legally and in areas that will not create noise or other matters for residents; however, the unauthorised ones that have been constructed illegally; especially at 141 Overall Drive, has been the subject of severe criminal activity over the last few months for the residents—starting with illegally removing trees and fencing around the area, to digging, to throwing rocks at passing cars, graffiti, property damage, public urinating, verbal abuse of neighbours, physical attacks, and even attempted break and enters. All by the same group of people. This site needs to be shut down and transformed back into what it was intended for - stormwater and flood reserve.
The residents surrounding this site have been suffering with fear and anxiety for the last four months since this activity first started. The police have rarely to ever been called to this street in the last 10 years; however, since August we have witnessed the police attend this site at least 20+ times. We have had to call them out ourselves after witnessing the group begin to throw rocks and 'bash' a person at the site. This site is causing a lot of fear and the TSC is the only one that can stop this.

It's illegal to cut down trees on public land, to dig up & destroy public land, to throw large stones at people & property, to graffiti, to abuse pedestrians & to make excessive noise. All of these crimes I have witnessed at the site as a local resident, and I wish the site to be permanently shut down to restore peace to the area. Regarding the TSC on this issue, I am appalled that there is even a "have your say" to debate these matters of clear criminal behaviour, when Australia already has clear state and federal Laws in place to stop this kind of delinquent conduct, is irresponsible for the council to even be facilitating a “discussion” around the law.

As a resident of Overall Drive Pottsville, we are in direct view of the bmx site currently under review. As documented previously over so many weeks, the response from the council has been appreciated. - However, the population of Pottsville defending this BMX riding site have continued to name call, abuse and project publicly via social media that we, the neighbours residing on Overall Drive are ............ ( can't type sorry ) .Only yesterday 4.11.21 - continued rock throwing at vehicles and rocks directed to our driveway are still occurring. CCTV has verified that the group of boys attempting to break into neighbouring homes during broad daylight ( whilst they have their bikes at the jump ) are in fact the same group of boys confirmed as the group that were cutting down the trees and digging up the park.CCTV footage is available to prove identification. The boys continue to harrass neighbours during broad daylight. They also continue to dig and break ground weekly and have now started trashing vegetation further east towards the creek bed.Again, trees have been destroyed in this recreation activity. If Tweed Council had acted promptly in the early time period, the residents of Overall Drive that reside within the radius of this BMX site would not be subjected to the continued bad behaviour from the group of boys. We ask you to act accordingly now, and close the site.We wish to see TSC tidy the drain area, replant appropriate vegetation and allow the residents to regain peace without the consequences of continued harassment from the supporters of this BMX site.
