Council is setting up a Project Reference Group to review its Climate Adaptation Plan

We are looking for people interested in joining a Project Reference Group to give feedback to Council on its plan for adapting to climate change.

The Climate Change Adaptation Project Reference Group will review and provide input into climate change adaptation actions across Council program areas, including:

  • Conservation
  • Coasts and Waterways
  • Water and Wastewater
  • Roads and Stormwater
  • Parks and Active Communities
  • Community Services
  • Natural Area Management

What does a member of the Project Reference Group do?

The project reference group will meet monthly, until the end of 2024.

Meetings will be held in person (preferred), with online facilities provided if needed. The first meeting will be held in person only. Information will be provided prior to meetings for reference group members to review and consider in their own time.

Reference group members will also have the opportunity to be involved in a locality-based climate change adaptation scenario to help understand the potential impacts and responses to climate change factors in a particular area of the Tweed Local Government Area.

Selection criteria

Applicants expressing interest in becoming members of the Climate Change Adaptation Project Reference Group should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Awareness of climate change and its economic, social and environmental opportunities and challenges
  • Ability to review and provide input into technical and strategic documents, show strong advocacy for the community, and ability to connect with community stakeholders
  • Knowledge, qualifications or experience in relevant areas such as business, science, engineering, risk management, planning, design, sustainability, education or community services.
  • Appropriate participation within the group:
    • Have access to email for project correspondence and internet access if required for video conference meetings
    • Be willing to contribute constructively to meetings in a fair and unbiased manner
    • Look beyond personal interests for the benefit of the community
    • Commit to the project for the required duration, including pre-reading and attendance at a minimum of 75% of meetings


Your Expression of Interest

If you are interested, you can submit an Expression of Interest by close of business, 20 May 2024. In your application, please address the following questions:

  • Provide an overview of the relevant knowledge, skills and experience you will bring to the Climate Change Adaptation Project Reference Group
  • List any committees, organisations or community groups where you have membership, employment or interest
  • Describe why you want to participate in the Climate Change Adaptation Reference Group and why you believe you will be a good fit for this group
  • Nominate three preferred meeting times during a typical week; meeting times cannot be guaranteed, but every effort will be made to select times that maximise participation of all group members
