Project update - March 2024

Work started this week on major repairs to the Anchorage Islands Rotunda Boardwalk which is expected to take approximately six months to complete. The boardwalk will be closed as a public thoroughfare for the duration of the works and will reopen in approximately late September 2024, weather permitting.

Work will include:

  • Repairs to a number of the timber piles supporting the boardwalk
  • Replacement of some timber beams in the boardwalk sub-structure
  • Replacement of all steel brackets and fasteners
  • Replacement of the timber deck
  • Replacement of handrails

Pontoons attached to the boardwalk may be inaccessible (from land) for a period of up to three weeks during this time. Vessels will need to be temporarily moved to allow construction work to occur. If you own a pontoon or keep a vessel on one of the pontoons attached to the Rotunda Boardwalk, please contact Council to discuss arrangements.

Construction impacts

The work is expected to create construction related impacts such as noise, vehicle and vessel movements. All materials will be transported to the site by barge from Afex Park, located on Wharf Street. A site compound will also be located in Keith Curran Park, Mariners Drive West.

Working over water and without the benefit of road access makes this a challenging project. Council requests your patience and understanding regarding the logistics of the project.
